Going on a Trip

I’m so excited! I’m going on a trip with my friends to a quilt show. Yes, one of my passions is quilting. I’ll be taking a class, viewing some beautiful quilts, shopping, and spending time with friends. It will be great fun…
I am a bit worried about how I will continue my healthy eating and exercise practices. Here are some of my plans:
- I do not expect to lose weight — my goal for this week is to have fun and make sure I don’t gain weight.
- Take exercise clothes and either go for a walk outside, or find the work out room at the hotel and use it every day. I may be tempted to skip the exercise, because I won’t want to miss a minute of the fun with my friends — so I’m going to ask a friend to exercise with me.
- Take healthy snacks and food. We will be staying in a suite that has a mini frig and microwave. My friends and I have agreed that we will have lunch in the room each day. This will maximize our time for shopping and viewing the quilts. It will also save money and helps me make sure I’m eating healthy. I’m planning to have a turkey sandwich each day with shaved turkey, mustard and a “sandwich thin”. I’ll have veggies and a piece of fruit as well. If the complementary breakfast doesn’t offer yogurt and fruit for breakfast, I’ll take some. I always travel with a “hot pot” and a selection of tea bags, so I can enjoy hot tea any time.
- Drink plenty of water, especially while traveling. We will take a supply of bottled water, and I’ll make sure I get my 8, eight ounce glasses a day. We will stop and stretch our legs every couple of hours and so all that water won’t be a problem!
- Plan your restaurant eating – we have planned which nights we will go out to eat and I’ve looked at menus online. This way I know I’ll be able to choose something from the menu that fits my healthy eating preferences. I do plan to “splurge” just a little by sharing a “signature desert” with a friend. This way I won’t feel deprived but won’t over do it either.
- Entertainment does not have to include calories! — Each night my friends and I are planning to play card games. We have a selection of games that are fun and easy to play and this will keep our minds off of eating. Have you ever played Quiddler?????
Well, that’s the plan! Do you have other suggestions or tips that work for you?
Check back with me next week and I’ll let you know how I do….

Great plan Ada. I am really impressed. You have thought about all the situations of failure -eating and exercise-and have solutions to them. Also you are practical about “keeping the weight as is “rather than loosing it. Gaining weight while vacationing with friends and while having fun away from home is so easy that planning not to gain any weight is very ambitious plan. Congratulations.
Let me know how the plan went.
